Child Immunizations

Child Immunizations in Raleigh, NC

Vaccines are one of the most effective ways to keep children healthy, preventing serious illnesses that once caused widespread complications. At Blue Ridge Pediatrics in Raleigh, NC, Dr. Nicholas D'Avanzo, Dr. Deepa Vijay, and Dr. Komal Parekh follow the recommended vaccine schedule to ensure children are protected at every stage of growth.

Why Immunizations Are Important

Immunizations train the body to defend itself against dangerous diseases before exposure ever happens. Staying current shields children from conditions such as measles, mumps, whooping cough, and polio. Vaccines also safeguard the wider community by limiting the spread of contagious diseases, protecting infants and others who cannot yet be vaccinated. Our pediatricians take time to answer questions, outline the benefits of each vaccine, and provide reassurance so parents can make informed, confident choices for their child’s health.

Our Vaccine Philosophy

Blue Ridge Pediatrics, LLP follows the immunization guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). For information about these vaccines and the diseases they protect against, please visit AAP Immunization Resources.

For detailed informational sheets published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) please visit their immunization pages.

Our practice believes that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the AAP and the CDC. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections, and are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention.

We are happy to discuss your concerns about vaccines at your child's next visit.

The Vaccine Schedule

At Blue Ridge Pediatrics, we follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This schedule is carefully designed to protect during the most vulnerable stages of childhood.

  • 0-6 Years -Schedule for Persons Aged 0 Through 6 Years
  • 7-18 Years-Schedule for Persons Aged 7 Through 18 Years
  • Catch-up Schedule -Schedule for Persons Aged 4 Months Through 18 Years Who Start Late or Who Are More Than 1 Month Behind

In infancy, vaccines begin with Hepatitis B and continue throughout the first year with Rotavirus, DTaP, Hib, Polio, Pneumococcal, Influenza, and MMR. As children grow, additional vaccines are administered, including boosters for DTaP and Polio, along with MMR and Varicella. Preteens and teens receive the Tdap booster, HPV, and Meningococcal vaccines, along with the annual flu shot. Young adults may also need further vaccinations for school entry or travel. Our team helps families stay on track with clear guidance and reminders.

What to Expect During Vaccinations

Immunizations are typically given during well-child visits or scheduled appointments. Before each vaccine, our pediatricians explain what it is for, review possible side effects, and make sure children are as comfortable as possible. Mild effects such as soreness at the injection site or a low fever may occur, but serious reactions remain rare. Parents are encouraged to reach out to our office with any concerns before or after their child’s vaccination.
