Our office is staffed by four board certified pediatricians who work together as a team. We strive to provide same day care for all sick children. There is a physician on call 24 hours a day to help with any medical questions or concerns you have about your child.
Dr. Nicholas D'Avanzo, also known as 'Dr. D', graduated from Columbia College of Columbia University in New York in 1982. He then went on to graduate from State University of New York at Buffalo Medical Schoolin 1986. He finished a Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia in 1989. He practiced pediatrics in East Hampton, Long Island, New York until 1990, then relocated to Raleigh and has been at Blue Ridge Pediatrics ever since.
Dr. D'Avanzo is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also is a member of the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the North Carolina Pediatric Society. He has been continuously on active staff at UNC Rex Hospital Hospital since 1990. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UNC-Chapel Hill. Although not fluent, he does speak some Spanish. Special areas of interest include asthma, allergy, and ADHD/behavioral issues.
Dr. D'Avanzo is married and has two children. He enjoys playing softball, running, travel, and all things Italian, especially Italian cooking!
Dr. Vijay joined Blue Ridge Pediatrics in 1999 after finishing her Pediatric internship and residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem. She received her Medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, India. Dr. Vijay is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a member of American Academy of Pediatrics, and North Carolina Medical Society.
Dr. Vijay enjoys working with children and watching them grow. Her special interests are dermatology, nutrition and growth and development.
Dr. Vijay's other interest include Reading, Cooking, Gardening, and Yoga. She lives in Cary with her husband and 2 children.
Dr. Komal Parekh was born in Mumbai, India. She moved to the United States at the age of two with her parents. Dr. Parekh has lived all over the eastern United States. She spent the majority of her childhood in Montgomery, AL. Her undergraduate education was completed at Emory University. She obtained her medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1997. She went on to complete her Pediatrics Residency in 2000 at the CAMC Women and Children's Hospital affiliated with the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Parekh practiced in a variety of settings throughout North Carolina including private practice as well as locum tenens pediatrics. She joined Blue Ridge Pediatrics in December, 2006. When she is not working, Dr. Parekh enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and gardening.
Dr. L. Michael Edralin joined Blue Ridge Pediatrics in September of 2018.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2003. He then completed research at Duke University in the Department of Neuroscience as well as at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health. He received his Doctor of Medicine at St. Matthew’s University in 2012 and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2016. Prior to joining Blue Ridge Pediatrics, he worked as a Pediatric Urgent Care Physician in the Duke University Health System.
Dr. Edralin is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a member of the American Medical Association and the North Carolina Pediatric Society. He has special interest in newborn care, adolescent medicine, and general pediatrics.
Dr. Edralin is a native of Wilmington, NC. He is married and his wife also works in the medical field as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the Triangle area. He enjoys traveling, sports, trying new foods, playing the piano and guitar, and spending time with family and friends.
